The food and hospitality industry has grown in India by leaps and bounds. Food ordering and delivery apps are now as common as day in urban areas and several restaurants and hotels are thriving on these delivery service apps like Zomato, Swiggy, Food Panda, etc. More and more urban dwellers are opting to order food online through smartphone applications and unless you reside in a place that at least one particular food delivery service doesn’t reach, you’ll agree that it’s the most convenient way of ordering food.

Food delivery apps are also important tools to gauge the food preferences of various cities in India. The most ordered online foods in a particular city is an indication of the food trends there. Recently, Swiggy conducted a survey of the most ordered dishes in the most prominent cities across India and the results were quite surprising. The undisputed winner of the online food ordering scene seems to be biryani that was revealed to be the most ordered online dish across cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune and Chennai.

More importantly the non-vegetarian biryani seems to have found favor among urban Indians the most, as the chicken biryani was named the most ordered online dish in Indian cities. Below is a list of Indian cities covered in the Swiggy survey along with their other favorite dishes as revealed in the results:
